The Witch Tells the Story and Makes It True: poems by Liz Kay

$15.99

Synopsis: Revisiting the forest Hansel and Gretel stumble into, The Witch Tells the Story and Makes it True drifts between narrative and incantation as the witch claims her spot at the center of a tale "we know by heart"--the ravenous witch, the precocious children. And yet, "If there's a hero in this story," she declares, "I tell you, it's me." In an exploration of power, gender, and the nature of evil, this singularly monstrous woman recounts her origins and recasts her end.

Book Specs: The paperback book measures, roughly, 6x9"; the interior is black and white printed on cream / off white paper. It's 96 pages, and illustrations throughout.

About the Author: Liz Kay is the author of the chapbook Something to Help Me Sleep {dancing girl press} and the novel Monsters: A Love Story (G.P. Putnam's Sons). Her poems have appeared in such journals as Willow Springs, Beloit Poetry Journal, and Sugar House Review.

About the Artist: Devin Forst is an illustrator from Pennsylvania, with a penchant for the dark and unnatural. Graduating with honors from Pennsylvania College of Art & Design, with a BFA in Illustration, Devin has been doodling mystical images since childhood... and not much has changed since then. Growing up on faerie tales and amazing films such as Labyrinth, it’s no wonder his work is teeming with odd magic and mystery. With artwork described as “menacing melancholy,” “gothic grit,” and “witchery with attitude,” perhaps it can inspire you, too, to delve a bit deeper into the dark.
